Dr. Xavier Sauvage, CNRS research director and deputy director of the “Institute of Physics of Materials” (GPM -“Groupe de Physique des Matériaux” ) in Rouen is the winner of 2019 Acta Materialia Silver Medal. He will be officially awarded with this distinction during the 2019 TMS Spring Meeting and Exhibition in San Antonio, Texas.
His work mainly covers the study of fundamental mechanisms in phase transformations in metallic alloys, the role of defects and more specifically those resulting from high strains. A major part of his work also focuses on the relationships between nano-scales features and material properties. Those various works generate a growing interest from industrials, hence several collaborations (Arcellor-Mittal, Posco, Michelin, ACOME, Manoir Industries, Nexans).
His contribution in the improvement of knowledge in those fields has been recognized previously through European and national awards:
- 2009: Jean Rist Medal from the French Metallurgy and Material Society (“Société Française de Métallurgie et des Matériaux”)
- 2010: FEMS Young Lecturer Award from the Federation of European Materials Societies
All our best congratulations to Dr. X. Sauvage for this new distinction !
